Steve Janus on Sports Betting Online

June 5, 2008

Sports betting has been forever changed by the Internet. The massive amounts of information (some of it good, some of it not-so-good) available on the Internet has given even the most casual sports bettor the resources to be a successful gambler. If you’re new to sports betting, the concept is simple: you are betting on the outcomes of sporting events.

The bad news is that the online sportsbooks you are betting against have access to the same information that you do, and they will use it to their advantage. The good news is that there are enough opportunities out there for you to make some extra cash.

Now is an exciting time in the world of online gambling. Not only can you find bios of every player on every team in every sport you can think of, you can find how they matchup against every player other play, how they play against certain teams, at certain venues, and under particular circumstances. Are you starting to get the drift?

There is an endless sea of information at your finger-tips; you just have to know how to use it. We can help guide you in the right direction.

On any given night there are literally dozens of options to bet on. From football to horse racing to who is going to win the Oscar for Best Director, online sportsbooks have dedicated themselves to providing you every option and every opportunity to bet. The key today is the same as it has always been in sports betting: finding the right play in the right situation and cashing it in.

With access to accurate and relevant information, there is no reason you cannot succeed in the world of sports wagering. In most cases, the more information you accumulate, the better, as long as you are using reliable resources. There are several sites claiming “insider information”. These sites should ALWAYS be avoided. Not only are their claims likely to be completely false, they can face harsh legal action for these claims and, in some cases, so can their customers. Always base your wagers on hard-facts provided by trustworthy sources. There is a natural tendency to gravitate toward information that promises the easy, big score, but remember the old adage “if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is” holds true in sports betting just as much, if not more, than anywhere else. As with any investment, there is a risk associated with sports gambling, but the rewards can definitely be well worth that risk. You don’t need to try and double your money up on one big game, if you consistently win over half of your bets (around 56%) you can still make money! Don’t be discouraged with one bad night, they will inevitably happen. Concentrate on the good days and always look forward to the next chance to exploit the books when they provide weak, and therefore valuable, lines!

An important fact to remember about sports betting is that laws vary by location, so check your local legislation on sports betting before placing any wagers. Remember that sports betting should be fun! Never bet more than you can afford to lose and you will maintain enjoyment in your wagering experience.

Steve Janus on Betting College Football Rivalries

June 5, 2008

In the last few years NCAA Football has transformed from a Saturday morning/evening event to holding quality games nearly every day of the week. This is great news for fans and for NCAA Football betting! With more options, as long as you are only betting on quality opportunities, you stand to build your bankroll to new heights!

One of the best aspects of the NCAA Football season is the scope of diversity and parody available almost every single week. With the traditions and rivalries that have been built over the years, coupled with some very strong up-and-coming programs, we get the formula for exciting matchups week after week. This isn’t to say the league is without some very dominant programs that will come out and blow teams away, which, when bet on at the right time, can be another excellent time to cash a winning ticket. However, let’s go back to rivalry game for awhile. The reason that rivalry games are so interesting and important when providing NCAA Football picks, is that they so very important in insuring a successful NCAA Football betting season. There are always exceptions to the rule and we do the best to weed those games out, but, for the most part, rivalry games are a completely different animal than non-rivalry games, both within and outside of the conference.

Teams in the same state, teams with a long history of playing each other, teams that played each other in a bowl game within the last few years, and some teams in the same conference all have the potential to be rivalry games. So, what does this mean to you? There are always several factors to consider, but there is a short-list of things you can expect with most rivalry games. First, they are more likely to be defense-oriented, that is, they are more likely to be low-scoring. This is because the defensive side of the ball thrives on the intensity that can come from a rivalry game, while the offenses typically struggle with increased emotional intensity because they, more often than not, thrive on planning, execution, and efficiency. Another factor to consider in these rivalry games is the turnover factor.

There are several reasons for this factor alone. Players are more likely to make mistakes playing with raw emotion, this includes fumbles, throwing interceptions, and even blocked or botched kicks on special teams. The final factor we will explore with rivalry games is the idea that you can pretty much throw out much of past history (with a true rivalry). This includes the teams’ records against each other and their current season record. Many NCAA football bettors think that a heavily favored team in a rivalry game is an easy winner, otherwise why would they be favored? This is one of the biggest misconceptions in sports. Rivalry games have a more frequent chance of being upsets and a more frequent chance of being close games, even when the point spread heavily favors one team.

Exploring the ins and outs of rivalries in NCAA Football is just one of the many variables we consider when making our NCAA Football picks. In the near future we will be providing even more insights into NCAA Football betting, including NCAA Football predictions each season!

Steve Janus on Football Betting

June 4, 2008

Football betting has truly become an American pastime. The NFL has established itself as the dominant sport in the betting world, but NCAA Football betting is quickly becoming just as popular. At Steve Janus we take football betting seriously. If you take the necessary steps, you can be a successful bettor in college and pro football.

First and foremost, as with any form of betting, you need to have a strong money management plan. Without a plan for money management you are setting yourself up to lose before you even place a wager. Set an appropriate amount you are willing to lose and break it down. You should really never be betting more than 20% of your entire bankroll on any single game, and that’s betting pretty liberally.

Aside from money management, you also need to avoid betting simply to bet. The most common mistake is to bet on games that are only on TV. Often times these are the toughest games to handicap, so you are already at a disadvantage. Have a game plan. You have plenty of time to research trends and matchups on your own, or you can turn to seasoned professionals like the ones and Steve Janus to do the nitty-gritty legwork for you. One of the major advantages to football betting is that the point-spreads come out early. This gives you plenty of time to research and decide which games to bet on and which games to avoid. Earlier, we talked about staying away from games on TV. Now, this is not entirely true. Normally, the big, nationally televised games are the ones you may want to avoid (even though they do have their place). Games on cable or non-marquee matchups on network TV are going to be alright. The bigger games, for example, Michigan-Notre Dame are the types of you will want to consider avoiding. The tremendous media coverage and speculation can throw off your game, plus the sportsbooks will be licking their chops at these games knowing full well they can cash in big with the bigger audience. This leads to tighter lines and therefore a smaller chance of you winning. Nobody wants that! Your goal should always be to maximize your chance of winning.

Always remember that football betting is a game of chance and you aren’t going to cash in on every game you place a bet on, but you can have a winning season when you have a winning game plan and efficient money management skills. It’s up to you to find your own winning combination. Some people are just naturally lucky, they can win a few games and be satisfied. But, if you want to be successful over the long haul, you are going to need to do your homework, or, better yet, let us do it for you. We consistently turn out winning NFL and NCAA Football seasons. You too can cash in this, and every, football season. We encourage you to pick up three to seven day football package to see if Steve Janus can be your choice for football betting expertise!

Steve Janus Sports Predictions

June 4, 2008

Sports predictions are exactly what the name implies: predictions about sports or sporting events. Many people expect that sports predictions and sports picks are interchangeable, but this is not necessarily true. A prediction can be for an entire season or series, whereas a pick is usually on a single event. For example, a pick might be the Atlanta Falcons -3 against the New Orleans Saints, where a prediction would be that the Atlanta Falcons will win their division. Steve Janus provides both sports picks and sports predictions.

Our sports picks are provided at a very affordable price based on the length (number of days) you wish to purchase. Our sports predictions, on the other hand, are provided on a regular basis, based on current sporting events and news, and are provided completely free of charge! Our predictions can be used simply for informational purposes, or they can be a useful tool for “futures” bets, or simply a different angle on how your favorite (or least favorite) team might fare this season. When making sports predictions we will almost always lean toward one outcome, but, as always, it is up to you to decided whether or not you agree with us.

We always encourage customers and/or visitors to offer their constructive criticisms and opinions on any of our predictions. If we think you make a good case, we may just feature your article with ours in point-counterpoint style on our site! Also, if we don’t have an article or prediction about or an event that you have interest in, let us know! While we can’t get to every request, we will do our best to research and provide and insightful prediction on your requested event!

Keep in mind that our sports predictions are our opinions and should be treated as such. While we make every effort to provide accurate information, our predictions aren’t always correct. Don’t get me wrong, we are fans of all sports we provide, but our predictions are based on objective facts, not biases, that is, we don’t “play favorites” on certain teams. Now, there are plenty of situations where we will heavily favor one team or one side of an event, but it will always be based on the vast amounts of information we have accumulated about the team or event.

Another great aspect about sports predictions is that we can provide insight on sporting events that you might be hard pressed to find predictions about. Horse and car racing, boxing, UFC, even drafts, are just a few of the events you can expect us to provide predictions on. In addition, we will also provide sports predictions on the “big” sports: football, basketball, and baseball. This includes, but is not limited to, full and in-season predictions, playoff predictions, championship game predictions, and trade predictions. We will do our very best to provide up-to-date and relevant predictions well before the event in question. We are by no means the only source on the web for sports predictions, but we believe we can be the best by providing well-researched, logical predictions formed by analyzing statistics, teams, players, and all relevant information.
